We have to go back to 1982 to witness the birth of Naviglio Grande Association as a structured organisation, managing the initiatives held in the area.
However, by that time most of the artists, shop owners and antique dealers settled along the canal were already organised in self-constituted promotional committees, setting up open-air art exhibitions and antiques markets.
The beautiful, enchanting setting of the canal led to growing success of the initiatives spearheaded by the committees. It became then necessary to found a structured association for coordination of local activities.
Hence the first association of the Naviglio Grande called LAMON (Libera Associazione Milanese Operatori Naviglio), which a few years later changed its name in Associazione del Naviglio Grande.
Currently there are eleven members on the board of directors, elected every two years by a public assembly of the Association.
Every shop and artist based along the Naviglio Grande between Darsena di Porta Ticinese and Valenza st. Bridge - or even in some street nearby - can join the Association.
Moreover, anybody caring about this historic neighbourhood of Milan will of course be welcome as a member of our association.
